30 November 2006

1.  I checked the internet for interest in specific performance art areas.

2.  I found that getting on the first page of the major search engines with "environmental theater" was possible as well as on first, second or third page with "evolution bible" or "church of evolution"

3.  I also have noticed an increased interest in Marxism over the summer of 2006.

4.  Even though I had given all my (hammer and sickle) shirts and hats away because I had thought I would never do another Marxist rally I decided this would be a good idea.

5.  I had also completed a séance performance (but not performed) and wanted to do (worked on it a lot) a disturbance of the force or motion in the aether performance with radio type waves or at least some electro magnetic force.

6.  So I decided I could also combine these (the séance and disturbance) with the Marxism and evolution bible.

7.  I began getting a vague visualization of how this could be performed at Leigh Waltz's Dayton Performance Art Festival with the Dayton Gym Club as the venue.  This would have it performed in the fall of 2007 (about a year away)

8.  My visualization required the radioman as the controller of the performance.  I looked at things like Captain Midnight and Captain Radio on the net but wanted to be original.  I went through a couple names and decided on Captain3 because I had a pin from the third soviet airborne on my leather jacket.  I visualized his as a 1930 or so pilot that used the radio for communication.

9.  I then checked to see if I could get a 1920's or so pilot hat with goggles.  I, as the creator, try to find and purchase the things that would be the most difficult to adapt to without them. I did find them.

10.  Since I had to repurchase Marxist Rally materials I checked EBay for hammer and sickle. I found the tee shirts on EBay were mostly associated with retro punk.

11.  I needed a web address and checked what .com was available. I discovered "RetroPunkX.com" was so I bought it.

12.  I had considered "Revoltlover.com" that I already owned but found there was a group that did either an album or song with that title so that kind of wrecked the creativity aspect.

13.  As I was making these decisions I realized that if everyone dressed retro punk that it would visually tie the performance together no matter what we did.

14.  While making all these decisions I found a performance art venue for the last of April of 2007 and applied for it.  However, if we are not accepted we can find another.  It is in Cincinnati and would be difficult to deal with but I do know some performers in Cincinnati.

15.  Even though the Cincinnati venue is five months away I still had to get some of the difficult props.  I had given away almost all of my Lenin pins at the 2005 Miamisburg Ohio rally and started checking EBay for more.  I did find 40. I think approaching 30 people during a 15 minute environmental theater piece is enough.  While hunting for the Lenin pins I also found 6 of the 3rd Soviet Airborne pins.  The environmental theater performers can wear these and in this manner link them to Captain3.

16.  Since I will only need 5 or 6 hammer and sickle caps and shirts I checked the internet to see if I could buy them at reasonable cost and the stencil material to put them on with.  I can, but since these are not difficult to find I will purchase them in a couple months.

17.  I decided the communication method from the Marxist environmental theater group to the staged venue would work best with cell phones.  I will work on it later.

1 December 2006

1.  It has been about 20 days since the initial creative spark of the performance.  I initially titled it "The Great Performance" because that was the initial spark.  I thought/realized that I could combine my knowledge about Performance Art and make a Great Performance   This came shortly (about ten days) after I along with my assistance performed "Red Queen" or "The Red Queen Principle".  I saw that I learned things while creating it that I should apply by design (I applied them to the Red Queen Principle out of necessity). So I began the creating of the, now called, "Retro Punk X" performance.

2.  Since the snakes are going to be very difficult (or expensive) (I always watch the expense since this could easily cost a $1000) I was thinking (looking) for some other shocker and thought of the liposuction drink that was used in the Polly's Performance Art Show interviews.  Offer it to the audience with a link like, "drink the fat of man" instead of "the blood of Jesus".  An audience girl would hand it out instead of the apples.  The other audience girl would still hand out the Bibles.

3.  I wanted a song so I found one of my fire poems but heard a song that Carly posted on her space that was called something like "God can XXXX you up" and wrote mine to the tune of "Jesus Loves me" Called "Jesus will XXXX me"  I like to use Nursery Rhymes/Children's songs in my performance because they take the audience to their childhood memories and then brings us to adult realizations.  They are a very good tool.

4.  It is the first of December and I have not written any script.  I have visualized or audioized the thought patterns of some of the performers before they speak.  As I visualized this pre word thought some words would flash in and out but they were never permanent.

8 December 2006

1.  I need RetroPunkX preacher on the Index page (I already have it with the Evolution Bible.

2.  I need to make a sketch of the 5 people of the Marxist rally. 1) carry pendants 2)carry flag 3) distribute pins and bible 4) videographer 5) still photographer. (videographer and still photographer still dress RetroPunkX)

3.  Could notify press of the rally for publicity.

4.  Need to make links to the "Snakes in a Church" and "Marxist Rally".

5.  For Captain3 set perhaps should use only the Imperial Russian flag.

6.  Use universe sounds (northern lights) or make similar for Captain3????

7.  Séance girl. because she is using the dragon scarf for her séance, could and probably should wear a decorative turban (how to tie a turban in Google has many possibilities). She also probably should wear a black veil. She could also wear Islamic women's clothing.

8.  Captain3 could use natural sound recordings for a background. I have heard similar on short wave radio and I would think I could record them without having to deal with copyright approval from the Internet ones.

18 December 2006

1.  I have spent the last two weeks working on the "Chuck" website. The search engine spiders are finding it and I need to have something worthwhile on it.

2.  The "Time Machines" of Captain3 took about 2 weeks.  One idea did not work very well so I had to come up with another one. I actually think it is better than the original. This is an example of how necessity makes you creative. The backward time machine is my own creation.

3.  I started taking off the copyright symbol from the pages because of the archive machines. They will not be reluctant to post it if it is not copyrighted. http://www.archive.org/  I would think it would take a while for them to hit it but perhaps I could hurry it along. They have more written material than the Library of Congress.

4.  I found a Conway "Life" program that was for public use and used it for Captain3's future time machine. The problem with posting a link to a program is that they cease to exist. In fact over the last couple weeks I found that the "Super Code" performance with a link to the "Life" game is gone and the Fluxus manifesto site on "Performance Art Defined" is gone. I didn't have time to find another Fluxus manifesto or type it in so I just eliminated the link.

5.  I notice that after the original spark of a performance it becomes a search and integration of popular culture. Without the searching for ideas I would never have thought of the Retro Punk attire. After working with Captain3 for awhile I realized the time machines would fit right in and would make "Chuck" worth hitting even if you were not a performance artist. In this manner we are bringing more people to performance art. In working on the time machines and searching for an example of changing time I thought of the UFO material that I had for more than 30 years and had never used it. This will also create interest in "Chuck" even if the viewer is not a performance artist.

31 December 2006

1.  I created Rasputin Fortune Telling page. I saw the need for a more (feel like you are there) audience on the Internet site of the performance. This in combination with Captain3's Time machines allows this to happen.

2.  I dropped the Flirty Fishing girls for "Enticer Girls".  This was because the Flirty Fishing had connotations that I really didn't want. I only want the Enticers to use their femininity to entice the audience to do their religious bidding.

3. I wrote more songs and posted the four for the Retro Punk X singer.

4. Since the performance will not happen for three or more months I decided I should post as many videos or related videos on the "in progress" site.

5.  The Internet search engines are already hitting the site and one foreign country (Netherlands) has already hit it. So I tried to get it as far along as possible over the last ten or so days.

6.  I did get more Lenin Pins from Russia so the Marxist Rally could be performed twice if necessary. I guessed that 35 Lenin Pins would be adequate for one Marxist Rally and since the stage audience does not get any there was no need for an unpredictable number.

7.  I posted a page from a book that was printed about 150 years ago about Séances in America. It will give the reader a solid reference as to how they have been seen and conducted.

8.  I still have not written any script. I see that a venue is needed to pin down the actual script even though I have visualized it in several ways. I also see that if the actual performance gets scheduled for many months away that I could do any of the individual parts and I may do so since this would give me a video of that section that I can post.

2 January 2007

1.  In considering a YouTube video for the Retro Punk X preacher I surfed the net for ideas. Among them was that I discovered that I had put an "X" after Retro Punk. I know it seems obvious that I should know that but it was the realization that this "X" became a redefining of Retro Punk. This meant that I could, and should, deviate from the straight Retro Punk path that I had been following to this point. I THINK THIS WAS MY FIRST MAJOR CREATIVE IMPULSE FOR THE WORK ON THIS PIECE

2.  A really difficult decision (that I hadn't made yet) was how could I put a graphic on the cover of the Evolution Bible that I was going to hand out? Also, I had not decided what the graphic would be.  I was very capable of designing any graphic that I thought necessary but the cost of getting it on the cover had to be considered so I could keep the cost of the performance down. I realized that I could use a large "X" that was hand made with a large black marker. I also hadn't decide the color of the cover but my research indicated that Retro Punk used bright colors so I decided to use Neon colored paper.

3.  How I got to this point I don't know except that I noticed that there were 3-D images associated with Retro Punk attire. I considered (and still am considering) making a hand drawn large (like 5 feet by 6 feet) statue of Liberty holding a hammer and sickle for the singer. I realized I could (I know how to draw 3-D that uses the glasses) make the Statue of Liberty in 3-D and then checked the cost of 3-D glasses. They were about 40 cents each and I could buy them for an audience of 100 and give them each a pair. From this I went on to more 3-D concepts. Bright neon colors do strange things with 3-D glasses. This gives me a visual art thing to work on as I did with the afterimages in http://www.redqueenprinciple.com   Therefore, at this point the performance will be viewed with 3-D glasses and I will make things for the RetroPunkX internet site that play with the 3-D concept. THE 3-D GLASSES WAS ALSO A MAJOR CREATIVE IMPULSE (It is like you really don't know where they come from but you are on this trail and suddenly a Tiger jumps out in front of you. The Tiger is not to eat you but to lead you farther down the trail. So you look backward on the trail to see where the Tiger came from. More than likely he was following you all the time and just waiting for you to get farther along on the trail.)

4.   Since I had the need for something on the web site that involved the Retro Punk X preacher I began working on it. At this point I have concluded that having the "Evolution Bible" on a chain around his neck and others that are directly (on stage) involved would be a "faith" concept. Much like wearing a cross except this is printed text.

5.  So now I am excited about manipulating the "X" because it frees me up and I am excited about seeing what I can do with the 3-D glasses.

3 January 2007

1.  Could use the manikin (wood) as model for photographs - then drawings for Retro Punk X 3-D Enticer girl.

2.  Could make colorful 3-D cube using fluorescent colors, then photograph it and manipulate it on paint shop or post straight. (in any case to make it look good in 3-D)

4 January 2007

1.  I get the feeling there is more that can be done with the red/blue 3-D glasses. Probably to be done with the vibrating qualities.

2.  I made a 3-D page (site) to experiment with.

3.  Still debating on what to put on YouTube. It would be easier for me to just do it and in fact may be more entertaining.

4.  Possible definition for Retro Punk X attire. Homage to Retro Punk with similar attire. The addition of bright colors when juxtaposed with each other and viewed with red/blue 3-D glasses will vibrate and move.

5.  Post drawings and art that illustrates the moving of the object with the use of bright colors and 3-D glasses.

6.  I went to Goodwill today and bought some shirts and keychain clips that may fit my Retro Punk X Preacher costume.

6 January 2007

1.  An explanation:  A study of anaglyphic (red/blue) glasses and how they effect juxtaposed bright colors causing the illusion of depth and movement.

2.  From my notebook last night.

3.  Make reference to Joseph Albers, Psychedelic Art vs. Op Art that later went to minimal.

10 January 2007

1.  On EBay I found a "Life" magazine cover shower curtain. I can use it for a background for the video and possibly the performance.

2.  Also on EBay I found "retro/rave/Goth" gloves that would fit the Retro Punk X costumes.

3.  For the performance or the YouTube video or both I could make a black hood for the retro Punk X preacher with 3-D glasses glued on. I could use the thin black cloth that I have used before in performances because you can see through it. I used it in the "Last Picture on the Roll" performance.  It would then become like a 3-D ant. A red scarf could cover the neck. A Ivy or drivers cap could then fit over it to help the Retro Punk X look.

4.  I decided I need to pin down some of the individual performances. The Captain3 was conceived as a disturbance in the force (æther) and one of the things I had designed for it was the Fluxes Piece.  I could make this to an Orchestra where the audience played the song also. It would work in many ways as an Internet page. A wav file and print out to where Internet audience could play the song. Perhaps should write words for it? Since we are already handing out Evolution Bibles and 3-D glasses this will become a logistic problem so I have to consider it in this manner.

5.  For Captain3 I will write the demo's with the mic that will allow the audience to hear. However, It may be too long so I may have to cut something. If it is ever performed alone or in combination with another part then it could be expanded. These two would be (1) the Crystal radio with the file transmitter and (2) the tuning fork as disturbances in the force. However these have only been created theoretically (In my case - I did the research and concluded they will work- but don't really know)

6.  For this one I decided to eliminate the dousing rods. I have not created a possible sub-act with them yet. So I really only know they work from personal experience. What I would do? I don't know.

7.  I have done more "vibrating" art with the 3-D glasses but still need to do a web site for it. I have done a lot more research but the knowledge I find just does not address the vibrating attributes of the images when viewed with the red/blue glasses. There is probably some relationship with afterimages but I don't have the time to experiment right now. I may later.

12 January 2007

1.  I realize, as I work on this, that the Internet site will get far, far more hits than the performance audience will be.  It already has more hits than the project performance audience. So with this realization I came to the conclusion that the site is more important than the live performance and that I should put most of my time into it.

2.  One thing that the site itself cannot do is the environmental theater performance so as spring comes I will concentrate on it.

3.  I already have audience interactivity with the time machines and the fortune telling sections. I should probably think more along these lines.

14 January 2007

1.  With the realization that almost all aspects of Performance Art can be done on the Internet I am thinking about doing the Internet Performance as the Performance.  It is like TV sitcoms replaced vaudeville and Motion Pictures replaced theater. The Internet can replace Performance Art.

2.  With the Rasputin fortune telling I have created Audience Interaction. Audience interaction is one of the most difficult to put into performance art.

3.  A difficult on for the Internet is smell and taste. I could offer the first 100 request for Bazooka gun and send via mail for the smell and taste as well as an additional gift. Could ask Bazooka Joe company if they would offer a free promotion?  The Bazooka Joe gum is thick and may not mail properly. I could use teaberry gum since it also is a pop culture thing, but not as much so.

4.  The evolution bible could be made into a PDF and would be easily printable and also become a gift.

5.  The environmental theater one would be the most difficult but a myspace page could be created to where pictures posted from participants in their Marxist attire in the real world environment could be posted.  The directions would be given on the site like going to Photobucket and making an account and the html code to post in a comment.

6.  When done as an Internet performance the Captain3 could use the 300 thousand volt stun stick and it may work as a broadband transmitter for the video.

7.  I think Captain3 would benefit most from an Internet Performance because things that are logistically difficult would be done on a video.

8.  Could use the spirit detector if Captain3 is on video - the stun stick could demonstrate it. (set off in another room) Also to test it just stick a non living rod the same distance in front of it to see if it is really picking up our electromagnetic force.

9.  Since other opportunities are open with an Internet performance could I use the anonymous home movies that I purchased from Ebay?  I probably could and personally I find them very strange. I would assume that others would also find them very strange.

10.  ANT SONG The fact that man can be so easily led is the greatest threat to the species.

11.  By switching RetroPunkX to Internet based it becomes a living novel or like living theater.  It is it's own environmental theater.

12.  The Marxist rally performance would need done (if for no other reason to post it on a myspace page as an example) but could be (and perhaps should since other performers may do it as part of living theater) toned down to one, two or three performers.  A one page hand out (in PDF format) should be made as well as directions for other performers as to how to make the hammer and sickle out of felt or stick on felt.

13.  Since Bazooka Joe is a registered trademark and copyright may be an issue I could make a parody of Bazooka Joe. And perhaps modernize it something like this:

Since this is very early thoughts on this I would have to explore possibilities. It would be colored as the Bazooka Joe comics are. But I could even make it 3-D.  The original (as well as the parody) has the "Mystic master of space and time" on it as well as the "Fortune".  This does fit the performance well.  I do still have to deal with sending the gum in the mail but an alternative would be Teaberry. I could still make the "Bloomeup Moe" comic.

14.  I could still do separate performances (especially for the video) by using the singer, preacher and enticers on one. I could also use Captain3 and a Marx Rally one one. However, These could all (except the Marx rally) be better done in a video studio and posted on YouTube, etc.
