STUDY GUIDE for RETRO PUNK X PERFORMANCE

This is an IN PROGRESS site that, upon completion, will explain the Surreal and Subliminal aspects of the Retro Punk X Performance Art piece.

CHAPTER 1 - CAPTAIN 3 AND THE RETRO PUNK X PREACHER

Captain 3 is based on a WW1 Soviet fighter pilot. He is chosen because he can wear 3-D Glasses and he is from an era of the decline of the ten thousand year run of civilization.

Retro Punk X preacher is disguised as a cool giant ant. This is so he can function among the Super Organisms. His job is to offer the individuals in the species an opportunity to have their own religion that is based on Evolution. In this chapter he introduces us to the Super Organism. He also leads us to the next chapter of the Enticer Girls.

3-D The link to the 3-D page serves a few purposes. Number one is that it offers the opportunity to visually explore an attribute of 3-D glasses that has previously left unexplored. Since Performance Art comes from Visual Art this is an important element. Number two is that 3-D Glasses are icons of the Retro Punk era. The 3-D glasses also become a metaphor for looking outside our normally perceived world. The Ǽther and Evolution are hidden dimensions outside our normally perceived world. In the performance only Captain 3 and the Retro Punk X preacher wear the 3-D glasses.

Evolution Bible. The Evolution Bible allows the people (usually individualist people like artists) a counter to the Faith Based Religions. All the formal religions are obviously creations of Civilization. This seems not to be recognized in Contemporary Society. However, it is so obvious that prior to 12,000 years ago they absolutely did not exist.

The BlooMeUp Moe girl is a parody of Bazooka Joe. Bazooka Joe is a cartoon character that comes with each piece of Bazooka Gum. The BlooMeUp Moe girl is designed to be current and also add mystery to the performance. The questions left unanswered are; Is she really a suicide bomber? Is she just a girl that blow bubbles? Why does she have a collection of inert hand grenades? On her final page she demonstrates the parable that clearly states for us to be good to our fellow man but at the same time she is called the bubble gum sniper. Is she our conscious? On this final page she also states that man, the individual species, is born good and implies that the evil is brought about by the Super Organism.

The BlooMeUp Moe girl introduces us to fortune telling or future forecasting. She uses a three moving number system that resembles gambling machines of today but still gives us a choice. It is contrasted with choice future forecasting in chapters that follow.

The Bazooka bubble gum serves two Performance Art purposes. It helps link the performance to its Retro Punk title because Bazooka Joe is a Retro Punk icon. It also introduces taste to the performance art piece. All participants (readers/viewers) should chew Bazooka bubble gum during the performance.

CHAPTER 2 - THE ENTICER GIRLS

The Enticer Girls are intended to add humor to the Performance Art Piece. Humor becomes the entertainment. Of course the visuals themselves are entertainment. The performance itself, and more obvious with the Enticer Girls, does have serious content with serious questions and answers. However, people appear not interested in them unless they are entertained.

With quotes from Thomas Hart Benton and Jack Bowman we get insight on primitive religion in America. This insight should be carried through by the reader, no matter what their religion, to apply to their own religion. This also establishes a time frame of World War Two to the beginning of the Space Age. It takes us on to 2007.

The Enticer Girls also take us into the surreal world of the Super Organism of Ants. The relationship of Ants to civilization is the major theme of Retro Punk X.

The Enticer Girls are the daughters of the Siren that tried to lure Ulysses and his crew to their death.

God's Secret Code shows that there may be an undiscovered math like or visual like formula for Evolution. Since the push pull of Evolution is the controlling factor of all things (including the lives of humans) some people must continue to search for it. Perhaps it is the nature of all thinking species, from ameba onward, to seek a God or the creator of all things that they can sense. Even though the time frames involved with this chapter are WWII - Space Age - 2007, this takes us back to PRIOR to Civilization. This is an important factor in studying the Evolution Bible that is introduced in Chapter 1.

Snakes in a Church video The video shows (instead of tells) what religions can be led to do by someone interpreting their documents words. Even though it again is primitive religion in America it applies to all religions.

Termination of Colonizing Species If there were ways to translate evolution to words then this would be the second law of evolution. The first law would be "The first law of evolution defines good and evil. He that survives the night is good and he that does not is evil". This of course is true if we only assume that we are living for our God which is Evolution.

Quotes from Benton Since Captain 3 can travel backward or forward in the Ǽther he can find relationships to the contemporary pushes and pulls of the environment. A major push and pull is Civilization itself.

CHAPTER 3 - RELIGION AND FORTUNE TELLING

This chapter on Religion and Fortune telling is subliminal. You could say that it really has no significance in the scheme of things. However, the juxtaposing of Faith Based Religion and the Charlatan exploits of the Magician should make use question the similarities. In the third paragraph these are also linked to politicians. This extends the time frame from pre WWI to Contemporary.

The Church of Dan Ashwander If you take Dan Ashwander as a contemporary that probably is suffering from schizophrenia then you must also take ALL faith based prophets as highly probable schizophrenics. Dan, as a religious figure, is better than the historical ones because you can communicate with him directly as God.

Rasputin can tell your Fortune Rasputin is a reinforcement of the faith that is built into all Faith Based Religions. As Performance Art it allows real time interaction with the performance.

Izan Knarf can tell your Fortune Izan Knarf represents the results of what Civilization is capable of. WWII employed all the positive attributes of the ten thousand years of civilization and we are well indoctrinated as to what it did. His fortune telling TRICK represents all the learned cons up to and through WWII.

BlooMeUp Moe fortune telling BlooMeUp Moe's fortune telling device is intended to be modern. Meaning that in the Ǽther World the con preceding WWII is still there. Only the images have changed. This is also a Performance Art tool that allows real time interaction with the performance. BlooMeUp Moe is a major character in the Performance. She is the mystery. Her real intent is somewhat ambiguous until the "moral is told at the end of the Bubble Gum Sniper". Even with the moral the readers/viewers mind will go back and forth debating what she really is.

CHAPTER 4 - WAR OF THE SUPER ORGANISMS

Here is a direct link (although a fictional story) between Civilization, Man, and the Ant Super Organisms. All the links in this chapter are intended to reinforce these links. Dr. Jack is Blind and Deaf and immune to the song of the Siren and the beauty of her daughters the Enticer Girls.

Gallery of Super Organism Art This page adds both conscious and subliminal messages. The art created by the super organisms is interesting but mainly because Individual Artists do not see such art. The photographs of the various Ant Poisons take us through history in our attempt to destroy the super organism.

Dr. Jack's Super Organism Notebook of 1994 This has interesting information but essentially is used to establish that fact that his has been thought about for many years by Dr. Jack. And is not hidden knowledge as the introduction to the page shows both a robot and WWII connection. Karel Capek coined the word Robot in his play R.U.R. and his brother Josef Capek wrote the Insect Play.

The battle of the Super Organisms begin with the release of the ants by Dr. Jack and his Assistants. Links to the Labor Day 2007 releases.

THE BEE DANCE From a previous performance art piece. The bee dance shows that Super Organisms know math and how to communicate this math to their fellow Super Organisms.

ANT DROP You can participate in the performance by releasing Ants around Public Buildings. Contains a Link to a MySpace page that allows you to record your participation. It is much like a role playing game. Like Dungeon and Dragons or a Living Novel.

CHAPTER 5 - THE FORCE

Captain three offers proof (?) of the existence of the Ǽther. This chapter (as of the end of March) is far from completed.

CHAPTER 6 - MARXIST SUPER ORGANISM

With the flaws of Capitalism becoming more known to the indoctrinated people it appears that the next step of the Super Organism called Civilized men or Governed men will be Marxist related in some manner.

This is a heavy Performance Art structured chapter. It allows for Environmental theater and the giving of objects to the audience.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: Prior to the performance on May 19th, I had envisioned the movement of the performers in time. It was like a truly random movement through a specific public area. It was like the random movement (if there is such a thing as random) of a species through their environment. I had built in and knew there was a time element involved so this random movement through space and time could be charted with the use of the documents. What I had not envisioned was that it was a PAINTING. The painting consisted of red with yellow movement through space and time. I only saw this after I checked the documents. It was like a dream beyond a dream where colors and symbols were moving about in an environment by what appeared random but it was not random because the individual thought processes of the performers and the environment they encountered were causing the direction of their COLOR moves. It wasn't like the choreographed body paintings of Yves Klein or the other body paintings I have seen. It was a space time painting unlike any that had been before.

ARTISTS STATEMENT TWO: I had not envisioned the Audio that was recorded on the video. As a painter and artist I think visually. During the creation I was thinking silent pictures with no audio at all. I think this comes from not being allowed verbal expression as a child and young man. I am suspicious of words. They are mostly, if not totally, used as a tool for conditioning the people. It is so obvious when you think of a classroom. You are not allowed to talk. Only the teacher is. When watching the video I realized that the world is noisy. There is a lot of verbal interaction that is self expression but in the scheme of things means nothing.

STRIKE SITE Was an early experiment in Environmental Theater. The Strike Play that was done at EFX was so successful that I could never think of a better one. It probably is the essence of Environmental Theater.

CHAPTER 7 - TIME MACHINES

The time Machines use the Ǽther to travel back and forward in time. As Performance Art elements they allow for audience interaction with the performance.

FORWARD TIME MACHINE The forward time machine is Tim Conway's Life Game. It is a possible sample of evolution. As part of the Performance Art piece it allows for audience participation.

BACKWARD TIME MACHINE This time machine allows you to go backward in time and change the past.

PLATO'S CAVE AND STOPPING TIME This is part of a Performance Art Piece called Red Queen Principle. It explores our perception of three dimensional space with after images. It also allows for the stopping of time.

SEARCH FOR TIME TRAVELERS This site is the most recent searches for Timer Travelers as Performance Art. It involves broken watches, jumping clocks, and unexpected death of a participant.

CHAPTER 8 - THE SUPERMAN

Dr. Jack the Entomologist relates the Super Organisms to Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathrustra.
